General Practice learning framework

Project scoping indicated that no nursing competencies existed for general practice nurses specifically around cancer as a long-term condition. We wanted to create something that was a useable guide for nurses to highlight any development needs and support their ongoing learning in this area. The aim for this framework is that it can be worked through at whatever timescale is appropriate to an individual nurse, with the support of a peer or colleague who has additional expertise in cancer care.

The framework was devised with the support of the wider steering group and ‘sense-checked’ with several external stakeholders who have experience in this field. Lastly, we tested the document with general practice nurses to confirm it was a useful learning resource.
