Sometimes we need to speak to people about very specific topics – and to do this we run activities that are tailored to the needs of the work. For example, we recently put in a bid for perinatal mental health community services. It was essential for people who had experience of mental health services during or after pregnancy to help shape what this service could look like. By promoting the opportunity of social media and through the local voluntary sector, we recruited people to attend a focus group to help inform our bid. We also ran interviews with those who preferred to talk to us on a one to one basis. This piece of work enabled us to make sure that the bid reflected the needs of local people – for example by including provision for group support as well as individual talking therapies.
