Parvin Bhatia – GP, Broad Lane Surgery, Richmond
“I am a GP and work at the Broad Lane Surgery, Hampton, in the London borough of Richmond upon Thames. I have worked continuously in the NHS since 1978 – so 40 years this month.
I have been a GP principal since January 1986 and have been involved both as a clinician and manager during this time. I was part of the original primary care team (PCT) in Richmond during 2000/2001 and remained with the PCT (latterly as Medical Director) until 2010/11.
First and foremost, I like working in health because of the patients. In south west London we are very fortunate to have well informed patients who are motivated and active in trying to keep healthy and in making the most of their NHS. My colleagues, both clinical and managerial, have made it an interesting and supported environment where all views are respected and where evidenced based patient care is at the heart of our joint efforts.
Picking my best memory or proudest moment is a very hard one. I have always felt very privileged at being asked to be involved. If I have to pick one moment, then it would have to be whenever I am approached for advice or support from my colleagues locally.”
