Tracy Lynn, Human Resources Business Partner at South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust
“I came to this country in 1976 from Malaysia to work as a nurse for 14 years. I developed my career in nursing and moved to ward sister level. I changed my career path after 14 years of nursing in various hospitals. I retrained within the Human Resources department to obtain more generic working hours. I am currently the Human Resources Business Partner for South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust.
“Working in the Human Resources department I come across many skilled people from clinical and corporate environments. Personally I have gained knowledge from clinical and corporate environments throughout my work history. Students email in to ask for advice on how to get a foot into the human resources field and even nursing. This post I am doing currently, I enjoy it fully by supporting staff and giving the exposure to staff for career development. It has created a lot of exposure to help and support staff to work in their speciality.
“I like working in health and care in South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust because there are opportunities for everyone. It is safe and also the NHS is the fifth largest organisation in the world. In the NHS you can move around and progress and develop your career with the support that is provided.
“My proudest moment and best memory comes with time, with all the knowledge and experience I have gained in my career. I was able to do niche building projects helping to build Kingston NHS Trust Hospital and Croydon Health Services. I have learnt also to work with architects on large scale projects, looking at architectural drawings and designing wards. That experience gave me exposure and knowledge for project management skills, and coordination of wards. All these experiences have fundamentally provided services to patient and staff care.”
